What is CUET Exam?

CUET stands for Central University Entrance Test. It is a national-level entrance examination to be taken by students who wish to pursue any of the following courses at the UG level in India. The exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). The purpose of this entrance exam is to ensure that candidates who wish to apply for admission into various Undergraduate, Integrated, Postgraduate, Diploma, Certification courses and Research Programmes in 45 Central Universities.

The CUET exam will be conducted both in online mode and Offline mode.

• The candidates will be required to answer objective type questions.
• The total number of questions will be 100 with each section having 50 marks i.e., a total of 500 marks for each subject
• Each question is of two marks and there will be negative marking for incorrect answers i.e., 1/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong answer
• No separate syllabus has been prescribed for preparing the CUET Examination. However, students are advised to follow NCERT textbooks, Class notes and other books prescribed by their respective universities regularly and must keep themselves updated regarding latest developments in the relevant subject areas.
• There will be negative marking for incorrect answers i.e., 1/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong answer!

SYLLABUS: -

Section 1: - It checks the skill level of any one or two languages among the students. It is further divided into section 1A and section 1B.
 

Section 1A:- contains a total of 13 languages; English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.
 

Section 1B:- contains a total of 20 languages: Arabic, Bodo, Chinese, Dogri, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Manipuri, Nepali, Persian, Russian, Santhali, Sindhi, Spanish, Tibetan, Sanskrit.

Section 2:- It checks the knowledge of students in domain subjects that they choose to appear in. There is a condition to choosing your domain subject and that is the domain subject that you are choosing, must be relevant to the subjects which you have studied in your class 12. Total of 27 Domain subjects are there.

Section 3: - General Knowledge, current affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning (level of grade 8 only), Logical and Analytical Reasoning.

History of the CUET Exam

In 2010, CUCET was set up for admission to seven central universities with 1,500 seats in 41 undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated courses. It was held on 19 and 20 June 2010 at almost 30 examination centers across India. The Central University of Rajasthan conducted the exam for 12 central universities from 2010 to 2010. In 2021, the National Testing Agency took over the conduct of the exam. In 2022, as part of the 2020 National Education Policy, CUET, a revamped version of CUCET, was introduced, making it mandatory for all 45 central universities to adopt it.

The Purpose of the CUET Exam

Until 2022, the mechanism for taking admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate programs by each central university of India was quite different. To unify the process of admission in all central universities, the Ministry of Education has introduced CUET, which will be conducted by the NTA.
